Following Mayor Lucas Cleveland's invitation to his New Year's Levee at last night's council meeting – which takes place Jan. 3 instead of Jan. 1 – the Town of Cobourg has released a list of events they are hosting, beginning Dec. 29 to celebrate the latter part of the holiday season.
Mayor's Community Skate Dec. 29, 4 to 5:30 p.m. at the Cobourg Community Centre (750 D'Arcy St.) - Bring your family and friends for a free community skate with Cleveland, members of council and members of the Cobourg Cougars. There will be donation bins set out for those who are able to donate a non-perishable food item to the Northumberland Fare Share Food Bank.
First Night Cobourg Dec. 31, 6 to 9 p.m., Rotary Harbourfront Park (35 Albert St.) – This free New Year's Eve celebration is a family-friendly offering of activities centring around the Rotary Harbourfront Park (where there will be skating, weather permitting). A live DJ will provide the soundtrack, and you can enjoy a horse-drawn wagon ride through the 200,000-plus lights of this year's Christmas Magic display. Festivities conclude with fireworks over the harbour at 9 p.m. sharp.
New Year's Levee Jan. 3, 5 to 6:30 p.m. at the Victoria Hall Concert Hall (55 King St. W.) - Join the mayor and council members to ring in the new year with light refreshments and the music of David Shewchuk (not to mention a proclamation by Town Crier Mandy Robinson).
Christmas Magic lights will continue to shine each night to some degree. Those lights in Victoria Park will shine through Jan. 8. As for the lights in the Rotary Harbourfront Park, they will be on through Family Day for all to enjoy.
