The weather outside was not too frightful on Dec. 3, as families and friends searched for the perfect Christmas tree at the eighth annual Family Christmas at Spry Family Christmas Tree Farm for the Northumberland Hills Hospital Foundation.
The Foundation reports that more than 140 trees were sold that day, bringing in $30,460 for their Light Up A Life campaign.
As has become the tradition on these December events, Sharron Wharram-Spry and Brian Spry welcomed visitors to their Christmas-tree farm on Danforth Road West, north of Cobourg.
“There are many – including me – who look forward to this tradition each year,” Foundation Chief Executive Officer Rhonda Cunningham said in the announcement.
“It was wonderful to see smiling faces and kick off the holiday season with our community.
“We want to thank all those who came together in support of our hospital, from our generous hosts Sharron and Brian to the plethora of dedicated volunteers, returning and new attendees, and event sponsors – thank you all!”
Returning sponsors included Baker Tilly, Wharram Tree Service Ltd., Cameco, Tim Hortons (at the Toronto Road and County Road 28 locations in Port Hope), Canada Candy Company and Craft Food House. New sponsors joining the fold are Ley Hall Wealth Management, Cobourg Nissan and Just In Time Sanitation.
With a boost from this beloved holiday event, Light Up A Life has now raised more than $143,000 in support of an upgrade to the hospital's cardiac-monitoring system, which will include additional cardiac monitors and a new central monitoring system in the Intensive Care Unit.
