OPP Conducting Investigation in Brighton (Updated)

On Monday March 29, 2021, at approximately 11:30 am, members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP), responded to a residence in the south end of the town of Brighton for a report of a distraught individual who was barricaded in a room and refusing to come out. All traffic and pedestrians were re-routed from the area during the course of the investigation.
The Emergency Response Team (ERT), Canine Unit (K9) and OPP Crisis Negotiators were contacted to assist with this incident.
At approximately 2:00 pm on March 29, 2021, the individual was safely apprehended under the Mental Health Act and transported to a nearby hospital for assessment and treatment.
All resources have since cleared from the location.

Members from the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) are currently conducting an investigation in the south end of the town of Brighton. Officers are currently redirecting traffic and pedestrians away from the area of Ontario Street, Harbour Street and Presquile Parkway. Police are asking everyone to avoid the area until further notice.
An update will be sent out when more information becomes available.
