The Sunny Days Group Program in Brighton had their bottle drive donations stolen on Friday morning.
Designed for differently-abled adults, the not for profit program was just $50 away from their fundraising goal of $2,000.
They rely on community donations to fund activities for program members.
Angela Flindall from Sunny Days Fundraising says they were taken from out back behind the facility.
“This morning when [staff] went out back to gather [the bottles] they were gone. We honestly have no idea what may have happened,” she said.
The theft came as a shock to the program as this was the last week of the fundraiser, which runs from March to October.
After posting in a Brighton community Facebook group, the program was able to restore lost donations, and even exceed their fundraising goal.
She says community members have been dropping off donations all day to Sunny Days Group Program.
“The public reaching out and asking if they can help in any way has been overwhelming, honestly. Our community is fantastic.”
