Northumberland Rocks Back gives back to the community

By Cecilia Nasmith

Organizers of the Aug. 20 Northumberland Rocks Back concert announced that, with great community support, they have raised $25,172 for local organizations, services and programs.

The outdoor benefit concert showcased the talents of Cale Crowe, The Spirits, Jeremy Macklin and Jesse Slack, and featured stories from front-line workers and local volunteers.

From the proceeds, $18,672 will be allocated to the Northumberland United Way COVID- 19 Community Relief Fund that has helped more than 30 local organizations, providing services and programs to residents of Northumberland throughout the pandemic.

The remaining $6,500 (which was raised through the barbecue and refreshments) will support the event's hosts, The Lions Club of Cobourg, to strengthen their local community contributions.

“Northumberland Rocks Back united our community and proudly made a substantial impact to help a lot of people,” event chair (and Cobourg Media Executive Producer) Graham Beer said in the announcement.

“The outpouring of support from organizers, volunteers, sponsors and attendees was overwhelming.”

Beer described a safe and unique concert experience at the Lions Community Centre, which was also livestreamed by Cobourg Media and broadcast live on Classic Rock 107.9.

It was a huge success for Northumberland County, he said.

Northumberland United Way Chief Executive Officer Bobbie Dawson said all proceeds will go directly back into the community.

“Graham and his team are helping to support those that need it most this year with the funds raised through this amazing event,” Dawson said.

Lions Club of Cobourg President Vicky Davis said her group is proud to be part of getting the community back to some kind of normal – and the Lions back to helping the community.

“It was great to see the community come together and have a fun time, all while helping the Northumberland United Way COVID-19 relief efforts,” Davis said.

“Thank you to everyone involved for organizing a successful event!”

The organizers of Northumberland Rocks Back look forward to more exciting local events that give back to our community, and invite you to get in touch if you would like to become part of future initiatives.

“We created more than just a concert – we are a community of volunteers who want to make a difference in people's lives, singing along the way,” Beer stated.

“Northumberland Rocks!”
