Community Care Northumberland seeks board and committee members

By Cecilia Nasmith

Community Care Northumberland has put out a call for individuals interested in joining its board of directors of any of its committees.

These individuals should have a strong commitment to improving and supporting the health and well-being of seniors, adults with disabilities, and hospice clients and their families in Northumberland County.

Community Care's board of directors is made up of community members with diverse skill sets and expertise, who volunteer by overseeing the organization's governance and stewardship by focusing their efforts on:

  • Providing strategic oversight to the delivery of community-support programs delivered throughout the county.

  • Ensuring up-to-date governance process and structures in response to the agency's strategic plan.

  • Active participation in the new Ontario Health Team-Northumberland in response to new directions from the province for the delivery of health and social services.

  • Supporting the opening and sustainability of Ed's House, the Northumberland Hospice Care Centre expected to open in the fall.

  • Recruiting interested community members for the newly created Ed's House Foundation board and committees.

The nominating committee is hoping to recruit potential candidates with a variety of skill sets, including legal expertise, fundraising expertise, building and plant operations, health-care administration and policy development, information technology, government, and governmental relations.

The time commitment would be four to six hours per month. The board meets monthly, and committees have a similar schedule, both with the potential for ad hoc meetings as required. Board members serve a three-year term with the possibility of extension. Committee-member appointments are reviewed annually.

These are volunteer positions without financial compensation.

Board and committee members from all parts of the county are encouraged, as meetings rotate to different Northumberland communities. Interested candidates can contact executive assistant Tina Stephens at 1-866-514-5774 or t.stephens@commcare.ca for an application package. The deadline to submit the completed application is May 22.
