The COVID-19 closure of the Cobourg Community Centre, originally scheduled to be a weekend thing, will now run through Jan. 11, Councillor Emily Chorley announced at this week's council meeting.
The decision was made by the town's immunization-control group in consultation with the health unit, Chorley said.
The original closure was announced Dec. 11 – a weekend closure undertaken after a facility user had close contact with an individual who had tested positive for the virus. It would allow the entire facility to be deep-cleaned and sanitized.
To keep it closed longer is simply a matter of employing an abundance of caution, Chorley said.
Meanwhile, anyone who used the facility between Dec. 6 and 14 is encouraged to self-monitor and watch for symptoms.
