Appreciating our trees is the focus of Northumberland County's second annual Oaktober event at the County Forest Oct. 5.
The county press release describes it as a free, fun opportunity for the whole family to learn about recreation and conservation in the Northumberland County Forest.
Guided hikes will be offered, where staff will share information about how the county protects and maintains the forest and rare Oak Savannah habitat, and how residents can help take care of this important community asset.
Other fun includes children's activities, musical entertainment and a free barbecue.
Oaktober takes place between 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. at the Beagle Club Trailhead – (off Beagle Club Road, which is a west turn off County Road 45 north of Cobourg).
