A $17,000 grant through the Canadian Experiences Fund announced this week is aimed at projects that will increase attendance at the Warkworth Fair by 20%.
Northumberland-Peterborough South MP Kim Rudd was hosted by the Percy Agricultural Society as she made the announcement this week.
Scheduled for Sept. 6 to 8, the fair will celebrate 169 years with such innovations as having local chefs assist a celebrity chef – gaining food-preparation skills and experience while shining a spotlight on local restaurants. It is hoped that creative features like this one will draw an additional 1,000 visitors.
Representing Minister of Tourism, Official Languages and La Francophonie Melanie Joly, Rudd explained that the Experience Canada Fund supports Canadian businesses and organizations seeking to create, improve or enhance tourism products, facilities and experiences.
The subsequent press release noted that tourism represents more than 2% of Canada's gross domestic product, and supports 1.8-million jobs in Canada.
