Cobourg's long-standing tradition of the Mayor's Community Skate continues into another decade, with the 2020 version planned for Jan. 3 at the Cobourg Community Centre.
Mayor John Henderson and members of council have issued an invitation to Cobourg citizens to dig out their favourite hockey jersey and join them for a free leisure skate from 2 to 3:30 p.m. on both the facility's ice surfaces, the Pond and the Bowl. The hot chocolate is also free.
Those in attendance will be in exceptional company, as this year's skate features the Rogers Hometown Hockey crew who are in town to set up for the Jan. 4 and 5 Hometown Hockey weekend. You can expect to see Hank the Hometown Hockey mascot and assorted Cobourg Cougars.
The town will also be selling the popular Cobourg toques in support of KidSport Northumberland at $20 each, while supplies last.
The town extends thanks to the community sponsors behind the event – Cobourg Police Service, Downtown Business Area Initiative, New Amherst Homes and Northumberland Heights Wellness Retreat and Spa.
The CCC is located at 750 D'Arcy St., and everyone is also encouraged to bring along a non-perishable food item for the Fare Share Food Bank.
