Waterfront Festival takes place this weekend in Cobourg at Victoria Park. Most of the festivities have been moved to different areas than where they have been set up in the past.
Due to the damage from the high water levels last year the pier has been deemed unsafe.
The Lions Club has been a huge part of the waterfront festival for 28 years now. They are in charge of hiring companies to set up tents and rides, along with finding all of the vendors. The Lions Club are also the one’s to plan and organize who will performing throughout the festival. They have set up an ACDC Canadian tribute to preform Saturday night, Madman’s Window to preform Friday at the beer social, along with four other bands throughout Saturday and an axe throwing and lumberjack show.
“All the money being raised will go right back to the community, we are also donating our tent to the Northumberland hills hospital board so they are able to raise so many as well.” George Laurencic, president of the Lions Club in Cobourg commented.
This act from the Lions club shows how the community is tied together and wants everyone to enjoy things such as festivals but most importantly everyday life.
The Rotary Club is also working hard to get their arts and crafts tents set up. A little rain hasn’t hurt them as they have the tents up and ready and are prepared for the vendors to go down on Friday. Their tents will be open from 10-6 on the weekend and 10-5 on Monday. It costs $5.00 to get into the arts and crafts tent where you will be able to experience all kinds of vendors from jewelers to photography to pottery to food.
The club even added some extra perks to their already amazing contribution within the festival!
“If anyone going around the festival is carrying around parasols and would like to drop them off and then pick them up later in the day the drop by our tent as that is a new service we are going to be doing this year.” Lynda Kay Chair of Rotary Arts and Crafts Festival. She also mentioned that “For the first time there will be a butter tart contest on Saturday! There will be eight different kinds and the judging will take place at 2:00 at the Rotary tent.”
The Rotary Club also wants to remind that riding a bike down to the festival is a possibility as there are many bike racks you can lock your bike to. There is also a shuttle service, you are able to leave your vehicle at Donegan Park, the Cobourg Community Centre and Northumberland Mall. The free shuttle service will then pick you and take you to the festival. of course street parking is also available.
All the success of this event is because of all the handwork, dedication, and teamwork with all those involved.
Lynda Kay thanks the Lions Club for allowing the Midway to be set up in Victoria Park this year as the pier is not available.
Even more great attractions and events are taking place specifically for Canada day which takes place Sunday July 1st. The Canada day parade along King street all the way to Victoria Park starts at 1:00. At 2:00 there will be birthday cupcakes and special guest Magician David Johnson will be preforming. Sawmill Road, Green River Revival, and Beach Party Boys following. Not to mention Multicultural celebrations, Cobourg escape room, building with local Home Depot, and Teddy Bears Picnic! And much more, not to mention the annual firework display at the Harbour front starting at 10:00pm.
Those walking by are already stopping in awe at the amazing set up. Kids are already begging to go on the rides and lifeguards are prepping to do their part concerning water safety.
rides are currently being set up east of the band shell. As well as food truck sitting around the same area waiting to be set up by the vendors. Grass is being cut, trees being trimmed, everyone is pitching in to make this one of the best festivals yet.
Although the weather isn’t looking pretty today the forecast for this weekend is ranging in 30 degrees. Take advantage of the lake, splash pad, and all the vendors.
Northumberland 89.7 will also have our own booth, we will be setting up late Friday afternoon.
The waterfront festival in Cobourg is always a highly anticipated event for all!
