National Aboriginal Day is June 21

June 21 is National Aboriginal Day in Canada. Proclaimed in 1996 by Governor General Roméo LeBlanc, June 21 was selected in consultation with Indigenous groups, for its cultural significance as the Summer Solstice.  On this day, we reflect on and celebrate Indigenous histories, cultures and contributions.

In the spirit of National Aboriginal Day, everyone is encouraged to get out and get involved in the many community events happening around the province on June 21, and throughout the rest of June, which is National Aboriginal History Month.
