MP Rudd Announces Recipients of Canada 150 Constituency Award

Kim Rudd, Member of Parliament for Northumberland—Peterborough South and Parliamentary
Secretary to the Minister of Natural Resources, was honored today to announce the recipients of the Canada 150 Constituency Awards.


“My office was overwhelmed with incredible nominations,” said Rudd. “The depth of charitable and community giving by the individuals as nominated was staggering. It was my privilege today to acknowledge these community champions in this special ceremony.”


Every Member of Parliament in the country received special Canada 150 pins made from the copper of the roof of the Parliament of Canada. To celebrate the extraordinary service to country and/or community by constituents in Northumberland—Peterborough South, these pins today were awarded to the following people, in recognition of their meritorious service.


 Abeer Al-Salihi (Cobourg) – Volunteer for Syrian refugee programming;
 Carol-Anne Bell-Smith (Cobourg) – Longtime supporter of arts and accessibility issues;
 Victor Chamberlain (Cobourg) – Longtime social enterprise volunteer (Beyond the Blue
Box);
 Cale Crowe (Alderville First Nation) – Indigenous issues advocate/musician; 

 Doug Cunningham (Hamilton Township) – Volunteers with the organization Sleeping
Children around the World, providing bed-nets for thousands of children;
 Bruce Davis (Brighton) – Longtime community volunteer (Brighton Health Services
Centre/Brian Todd Memorial Community Fund);
 Terry & Thelma Dillon (Cobourg) – Longtime multiculturalism advocates;
 Sister Linda Gregg (Northumberland) – Longtime advocate for social justice and
environmental issues;
 Debbie & Keith Hillyer (Trent Hills) – Longtime community volunteers/Founders,
Fishability;
 Connie Hooey (Orono) – Longtime community volunteer;
 Lyssa Keil (Camborne) – Employment advocate for Tanzanian youth;
 Patti May (Colborne) – Longtime community volunteer (Colborne Legion);
 Kally McMurray (Cobourg) – Youth volunteer;
 Gwen Mellis (Port Hope) – Longtime community volunteer (Habitat for
Humanity/Help Centre);
 Deborah O’Connor (Northumberland) – Longtime poverty activist;
 Rax Pattison (Newcastle – Longtime community volunteer;
 Diana Rodgers (Cobourg) – Longtime community volunteer;
 Sharon Rusk (Brighton) – Current President (Federated Women’s Institute, Brighton);
 Nicole Whitmore (Port Hope) – Homelessness/social services advocate.

“I want to congratulate all the winners, and thank them for their incredible contributions,”
said Rudd.
