The Ganaraska Region Conservation Authority (GRCA) is excited to announce that the 2nd Annual Northumberland BioBlitz will be conducted in the Ganaraska Forest! This event, in association with the Rice Lake Plains Joint Initiative, will take place the weekend of June 23rd-24th 2018. Mark your calendars!

There will be selected sites in the 11,000 acre Ganaraska Forest that will be studied and inventoried by experts – plus sites that public Citizen Scientists will be invited to explore, survey and assist with species counts. The goal is to obtain a baseline of flora & fauna diversity, as well as insects, reptiles and amphibians, bats, birds, and other animals - in short, to gain a better understanding of the Ganaraska Forest’s current biodiversity.

Sound exciting? We think so! If you’re interested in taking part, keep your eye on updates to both the GRCA and Northumberland Bioblitz Facebook pages (@GanaraskaCA / @Northumberlandbioblitz), as well as the GRCA’s websites (grca.on.ca /ganaraskaforestcentre.ca). If you’re an expert who is willing to volunteer their time, please contact Chris Ketola, Northumberland BioBlitz Lead at chrisketola@hotmail.com, or Ken Towle, GRCA Terrestrial Ecologist at ktowle@grca.on.ca.
