Port Hope: In collaboration with Port Hope's Annual Candlelight Walk and Moonlight Madness in downtown Port Hope, Critical Mass Art is hosting an evening festival that showcases the themes of migration and story-telling through multi-media contemporary visual art installations and puppetry.
The family-friendly festivities include Port Hope's annual sing-along candlelight walk with the addition of illuminated lanterns and giant puppets (including a 24ft whale!). This contemporary art experience led by Critical Mass promises to add whimsy and magic to this annual tradition. As always, with the the donation of a non-perishable food item, participants will receive a battery-operated candle.
Critical Mass is also opening the doors to the Little Station on November 23rd. The Little Station is believed to be Port Hope's 1st train station. It was moved to Lent Lane this summer and is now transformed into a creative hub for the community! To celebrate the transformation of this little heritage building, VIA Rail Canada will be bringing the VIA Rail miniature train and offering FREE rides on board after the procession (with boarding in front of the Little Station). The mini train will be lit up for the Candlelight procession and will also make an appearance in the Port Hope Santa Claus Parade on Saturday, Nov 24th.
Critical Mass is holding a contest to 'Hop on Board the VIA mini train' during the Candlelight procession on Nov 23rd. The winner will have the opportunity to board their family on the mini train, and will also receive $200 in HBIA gift certificates to spend in downtown Port Hope, and a $500 travel credit with VIA Rail Canada. * Entry form at criticalmassart.com. Contest closes Nov 21 at 8pm. Winner announced Nov 22.
Home Hardware has also partnered with Critical Mass to transform Lent Lane into a warm and inviting pop up Christmas Night Market complete with vintage holiday tunes, great street food (Mexican hot chocolate, churros, hot apple cider, chili, and s'mores to name a few!), ski chalet inspired warming stations, homespun artisan crafts, and one of a kind gifts! You can even buy your fresh cut Christmas tree in the lane from the Port Hope Scouts!
This is a one night only event and one you don't want to miss!
